there’s no way

John 7:27: But we know where this man [Jesus] is from; when the Christ comes, no one will know where he is from.

The crowd in Jerusalem is questioning whether Jesus is really who he claims to be. Someone chimes in with the verse above. I imagine several people around the guy nodding their heads and agreeing with him. “Yeah, he can’t be the Christ!”

If we can define something or someone, we can assign them a label or category. Then we don’t have to think about them anymore. We’ve passed judgment and we can move on. The crowd knew where Jesus was from so there was no way he could be the Christ.

Who have I labeled and discarded because I assumed I knew everything about them?

I’ve probably missed knowing a lot of beautiful and loving people in the process.
