Social media has become the primary way I communicate online and I often wonder how it’s changing us. I’m finally reading Flickering Pixels by Shane Hipps and it begins to answer those questions.
Typically when I review a book, I put some highlights here. However, I’ve underlined just about every other sentence in this book! So the next several posts will address highlights from this work. I strongly encourage you to get a copy of the book. It’s imperative that we all understand how our fascination with new technology is changing us.
Flickering Pixels compose the screens of life, from televisions to cell phones to computers. These screens, regardless of their content, change our brains, alter our lives, and shape our faith, all without our permission or knowledge.
When we fail to perceive that the things we create are extensions of ourselves, the created things take on god-like characteristics and we become their servants.
Do we know who we are without technology?
Is social media an extension of who you are? Do you have a healthy relationship with social media? Or does it rule your life?
