There are two kinds of anticipation in life. One is a sense of excitement and culmination in a long-awaited event: a wedding, graduation, vacation, adoption, having a baby, starting school or the election of a new president.
Then there’s the anticipation that the Holy Spirit is about to unleash itself in a way you’ve never seen before. Something inside you knows you’ll never be the same again. That only the creator of the universe could enter into a space and focus minds on a central goal. That unity and realistic projects emerge because they’re inspired by the very Spirit of God.
It sounds crazy but that’s the energetic buzz and feeling surrounding the conversation among young clergy in the United Methodist Church right now. It certainly feels that God is doing a new thing…
