John Wesley created a self-examination in 1738 that helped measure one’s spiritual state.
2 Corinthians 5:17-18: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.
The Five Requirements:
1. Our judgments are new. Our judgment of ourself, happiness and holiness are new.
2. Our designs are new.
3. Our desires are new.
4. Our conversation is new.
5. Our actions are new.
